Audiobooks
Playing, downloading, and picking up where you left off.
The player
Section titled “The player”Tap any audiobook and hit Play. The player slides up from the bottom. Swipe it down to keep listening while you browse.
- Chapters. Named chapters with whole-book times, even for books split across many files. Multi-file books play start to finish on their own.
- Mini-player. While a book’s loaded, a bar sits above the tab bar with the cover, time left, and play/pause. Tap it to reopen the full player.
- Lock Screen and Live Activity. Artwork and controls on the Lock Screen, including for downloaded books with no connection. Toggle the Live Activity in Settings → Playback.
Resume that lands where you left it
Section titled “Resume that lands where you left it”Pause and come back days later, and playback starts at your saved position. No starting over at the beginning, no audible jump forward.
Play further on a second device and let it sync. Resuming here picks up the further position. It’ll only ever move you forward, never backwards.
When you’ve read ahead in the book
Section titled “When you’ve read ahead in the book”If you have the ebook of the same title and you’ve read further in it than the audiobook has got, the player says You have read further than this. Tap Jump to where you have read to, then Jump, and the audiobook moves to the chapter you reached in the book. Tap Not now to carry on listening where you are.
On CarPlay, a Jump Ahead button on the Now Playing screen does the same.
The ebook needs to be downloaded on this device, because Apogee works out the chapter from the book’s own contents. The audiobook only moves when you tap Jump.
Offline
Section titled “Offline”Download a book from its ••• menu or the download button on its page. The button shows live progress, and you can tap it to cancel. A big book resumes after an interruption instead of restarting.
Downloaded books play with no connection at all, chapters, resume and Lock Screen artwork included.
Listening log
Section titled “Listening log”Listening time records to your BookOrbit reading log, so your stats count audiobooks too. A book’s page shows its own Listening Log alongside the chapter list.
