Reading ebooks
The ebook reader for EPUB, and for MOBI conversions. Paged or scrolled, themed how you like it.
Paged or scrolled
Section titled “Paged or scrolled”Read page by page with taps or swipes, or switch to a continuous scroll in Themes & Settings → Page Display → Layout. Scrolled mode flows straight across chapter boundaries, so you don’t get trapped on a cover or title page.
One-handed option: Themes & Settings → Page Turns → Bottom edge → Tap to Turn Forward makes a tap along the bottom of the page turn forward. Off by default.
Make it yours
Section titled “Make it yours”Tap the page, then open Themes & Settings:
- Font, text size, line height, and margins (Narrow, Normal, Wide). Every change restyles the open book immediately.
- Light and dark themes with reader colour swatches. Dark themes recolour even books that hard-code black text.
- What’s printed around the text: book title, chapter title, page numbers, clock and sync indicator, under Page Display.
Settings stick across books and apply live, so there’s no closing and reopening. Every option is listed in Reader menus, themes and page settings.
Your own fonts
Section titled “Your own fonts”Add a font from the Files app: open a book, then Themes & Settings, then Add Font under Font. It uploads to your BookOrbit account, so it turns up on every device you sign in on, and it keeps working with no network once it’s downloaded.
Settings → Appearance → Fonts lists the fonts on your account. Tap a family to see its styles, edit one to fix its name, weight or style, or swipe a row to remove it from every device.
Getting around
Section titled “Getting around”- Contents opens at the chapter you’re reading, highlighted, not at the top of the list. Tap any chapter to jump to it.
- Scrub through the book by dragging the Contents pill in paged mode, or the side scrubber in scrolled mode. A chip tracks where you’ll land.
- Search works inside the book, fully offline for downloaded titles.
- Links inside a book use the app’s accent colour instead of bright blue.
Read Aloud
Section titled “Read Aloud”Have the book read to you, from the reader’s ••• menu:
- Apogee picks a voice in the book’s own language, detected from the text, so a Japanese book gets a Japanese voice.
- It uses the best voice you have installed: Premium, then Enhanced, then default. Download better voices in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, then reopen Apogee.
- The voice picker lists voices by quality and hides Apple’s novelty ones.
When you finish
Section titled “When you finish”Finish a book in a series and an Up Next card offers the next one. Swipe it down to dismiss it. It comes back at the very end if you change your mind.
